If you follow my blog, you might already know that my daughter, Christina, has vitiligo, a skin disorder that destroys pigment-making cells. For World Vitiligo Day on June 25, I published a post called “Having a Positive Body Image with Vitiligo.” Christina published a post at Christina Chitwood Performance called “How to Accept Vitiligo and Other Imperfections.”

Positive Messages about Vitiligo

Christina doesn’t hide her vitiligo. She loves to wear her fingernails and toenails in styles that actually draw attention to her vitiligo.

Christina has added to her online presence in the last few months with two YouTube Channels: Fit Body Full Life and Christina Chitwood.

Christina isn’t the only one who isn’t hiding her vitiligo. Many individuals with vitiligo shared photos of themselves on the World Vitiligo Day Facebook page.

If you watch America’s Next Top Model, you were able to be inspired by Chantelle Brown-Young this season. You can read more about Chantelle in the Yahoo Style article “Chantelle Brown-Young: An Unconventional Beauty.”

Chantelle tells more about her feelings about vitiligo in this interview:

Another person who has brought much attention to vitiligo is Lee Thomas, an author and Emmy-award-winning entertainment reporter for WJBK Fox 2 News in Southfield, Michigan.
Turning White: A Memoir of Change

Lee Thomas has helped raise awareness of vitiligo with his book and his work as a motivational speaker. He’s currently working to repigment his skin. You can learn more about Lee Thomas’s day in this fascinating video from a year and a half ago:

You can see a 2014 video about Lee Thomas’s repigmentation: “Lee Thomas talks about Schallreuter Scenesse and Vitiligo.”

You can also read more about Lee Thomas in the article “Lee Thomas – a new chapter on Vitiligo at Fox 2 TV.”

Has someone with vitiligo inspired you?
