How to help your kids have an attitude of gratitude can’t be covered in one post … or two. But I’ve put together lots of resources within my post called “How to Help Your Kids Have an Attitude of Gratitude.” And I have many more resources for you here.

I think gratitude is important year-round, but November is a perfect month to place an extra emphasis on gratitude. Maybe there are some gratitude activities you’d like to start for your family. Or maybe you’d like to do something different just for the month.

How to Help Your Kids Have an Attitude of Gratitude, Part 2 (November Gratitude Activities)Family Gratitude Activities

Here are some more family gratitude activities you could choose from. Just find the activity you feel drawn to, an activity you think would be fun and meaningful for your family.

“Gratitude Dance” This is just fun, and a gratitude dance is an activity that could work well if your family loves to move and dance together. It’s wonderful to do throughout the year. If you aren’t already doing it in November, this would be a great time to start!

Light a Candle from Gratefulness.org is a beautiful online activity that encourages thoughtfulness and thankfulness.

Kristina Belnap at Parent Guide News has an article called “Attitude of Gratitude.” Her suggestions are to:

  1. Model Gratitude
  2. Expect your child to show gratitude.
  3. Go guilt-free.
  4. Commit random (but regular) acts of service and gratitude.

November is an ideal time to focus on making these suggestions a natural part of your life.

Montessori-Inspired Gratitude Activities

I have a post at Living Montessori Now called “Montessori-Inspired Gratitude Activities” with links to lots of resources.

Hi! Stopped by from Java’s and as far as my kids they’re already grown and have their own kids and gave me nine of those grandkids! Now remember one thing I was a grandmother at 38 yrs. old! So I’m a young NaNee as they call me. Have a great weekend. Great Post here!

Thanks so much, Xmas Dolly! I didn’t have my youngest until I was 34, so I’ll be an old grandmother! I’m still waiting for my first grandchild, but I know I’ll thoroughly enjoy it when the time comes! How lucky that you have the joy of nine grandchildren! 🙂

My cheeks hurt from smiling and giggling! I watched the “Gratitude Dance” video. That was so inspiring!
I have always had grand ideas to help my family feel and express more gratitude. But I’ve seen something profound over time. It really is what I DO that teaches and inspires.
I ALWAYS smell the carnations when I go shopping. Now my children do, too.
A sunset or the night sky can leave me speechless. Now they’ll call me because they know how special it is to share with someone.
I’ll often say something like, ” What a miracle! or blessing!” about something simple like finding my license or library card. Now they run to me with items that they’ve found for me with the expectation that I’ll be grateful and in awe that it was found.
I think those things, just being me and openly sharing how the world and its workings affect me are the best, long-term teachers.
But I’ve always wanted to start a family gratitude journal. Ours would be overflowing by now!
    Excellent post!
    Thank you!

It is actually because of my children that I have learned to be more grateful. It always amazes and inspires me how happy my children are since they know how to appreciate and be grateful even to things which have significance I have forgotten about. Thank you for sharing this activity.

One of the best ways to keep a relationship positive is to have gratitude. A simple please and thank you goes a long way. It means the world to me when someone appreciates my help.

As a parent, I’ve been learning in recent years that my own behavior and reactions to situations are reflected onto the kids just as much as what I teach them in words. That has been my biggest focus – trying to emphasize all that we are so blessed to have, versus what is lacking. Last year, my oldest daughter’s kindergarten teacher always had snacks available to the class and after volunteering in class I realized those are all bought from out of his own paycheck for the children who aren’t able to bring a snack daily. The other day, it dawned on me to ask my daughter if everyone has snacks during their afternoon snack break and she said, well no Mommy, some kids don’t. Of course my next question was, do you know if your teacher has extra snacks for the children who don’t have anything? She said she’s never seen any given out. So we decided together that it’d be a good idea to buy some large snacks to provide to the teacher for those children who otherwise are going without, and let me say, when the idea came up, my daughter jumped up excitedly at the thought of it making her classmates happy and feel cared for. Sometimes it’s easy to forget that there are people right next door, so to speak, that could use a helping hand, so I’m constantly trying to help my daughter empathize with others and help in whatever way we can.
