Colbie Caillat is helping lots of females feel better about themselves with her new “Try” video. I love the video’s message of being true to yourself … of liking yourself just as you are.

After seeing the negative effects of Photoshopping on the self-images of too many, it’s refreshing to see a Grammy Award-winning, singer-songwriter promoting self-acceptance. According to “Colbie Caillat Wants You to ‘Take Your Makeup Off’ (VIDEO)” by PEOPLE:

Caillat was inspired to write the song after venting to Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds and two songwriters about the challenges she’s faced in the industry. “[People in the business] wanted me to dress a little sexier and kind of change the artist that I was,” Caillat told PEOPLE. “[Edmonds and songwriters told me] you don’t have to try to be someone else, because people like who you are.

I don’t see the video as necessarily saying that makeup is bad but that it’s important to accept yourself for who you are … an awesome body-image message. In a Los Angeles Times article, Colbie Caillat said: “Be happy and comfortable with who you are, whoever it may be.”
