Breast Cancer Awareness Ideas for Adults and Kids

It’s scary to think that none of us are immune to breast cancer. And even if we don’t get it ourselves, someone close to us could get it. I shared this quote last year, and I’m sharing it again this year because it’s that important:

“People used to say everyone knows someone who’s had breast cancer. In the past few weeks, I’ve learned something else: Everyone has someone close to them who has had breast cancer.”
– Debbie Wasserman Schultz

Breast Cancer Awareness Ideas for Adults and Kids

October always makes me extra thankful for my mom. She’s a breast cancer survivor. Thanks to early detection, she’s completely cured. In honor of my mom and other breast cancer patients and survivors, I like to do what I can to help the fight against cancer. You and your family can help, too.

Here are some breast cancer awareness posts and ideas for both adults and kids.

The important first step: talk with your children honestly about breast cancer and at a level they can understand.

Talking with Children about Cancer

This is especially important if you or someone close to your child has breast cancer. You’ll find lots of helpful ideas (for talking about breast cancer or any type of cancer) in my post on “Talking with Children about Cancer.”

Get your kids involved in breast cancer awareness activities.

Getting Kids Involved in Breast Cancer Awareness Month

You’ll find some great resources and craft ideas in my post “Getting Kids Involved in Breast Cancer Awareness Month.”

Create a gift for someone you know with breast cancer … or for a breast cancer survivor.

Make a "10 Things I Love About You" Book {Free Printable}

I have a post called “Make a ’10 Things I Love About You’ Book {Free Printable}.” Or your child could make a special card, photo album, or scrapbook to support someone with cancer.

Earn Money for Breast Cancer Research with Charity Miles

Use the Charity Miles App to walk, run, or bike for Stand Up to Cancer. I think you have to be 13 and older to buy the app, but it’s a great way to earn money for cancer research for teens and adults. I typically use the Charity Miles app every day. You can learn more in my post “Make a Difference by Walking with Charity Miles App.” (affiliate)

Get adults and kids involved in a fundraising walk.

My family loves to do fundraising walks for breast cancer research. Last year, my daughter, Christina, daughter-in-law, Chea, and 1-year-old (on that day!) granddaughter, Zoey, had a lot of fun completing the San Diego Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. We plan to do the walk again this year. You can read more about our efforts this year in my post “The Elephant in the Room.”

Since my aunt had breast cancer – ever since then my mom has been spreading recipes on cancer preventive foods. I do that all year round as well even more so during October. I find it hard to stomach how many brand use this month to put a pink ribbon a product that contain known cancer causing chemicals so I avoid that route.
