Maria Montessori was so far ahead of her time. Montessorians have been using an approach to praise that’s only recently become popular through concepts such as growth mindset. And the related growth mindset focus on effort fits perfectly with Montessori concepts on the importance of the child’s work.
Today is the birthday of Maria Montessori (August 31, 1870 – May 6, 1952). In honor of Dr. Montessori’s birthday and our unit on the brain and growth mindset, I’m sharing a quote from Maria Montessori that sums up much of the focus of her work:
“A child who has become master of his acts through long and repeated exercises, and who has been encouraged by the pleasant and interesting activities in which he has been engaged, is a child filled with health and joy and remarkable for his calmness and discipline.” Maria Montessori (The Discovery of the Child)
I created a word art freebie based on that quote. For printing, feel free to download the word art freebie without watermark. If you’d like to share the image online, please use the image with the watermark. Of course, I always appreciate when you link to my post and Facebook page, too.
