New, Positive Body Image Messages for Our Children

I’ve often been frustrated by many of the body-image messages our children receive from the media, but I’m excited to see some new, positive body image messages that have gone viral.

Average is Beautiful – Lammily

One of the new messages is that “average is beautiful.” Designer Nickolay Lamm is stressing the “average is beautiful” theme as he promotes an alternative to the unrealistically proportioned Barbie doll.

Nickolay Lamm’s new Lammily doll has the proportions of an average 19-year-old American woman. You can learn more about Lammily in this video:

There’s a crowdfunding campaign to put the Lammily doll into production. With 8 days left, the Lammily crowdfunding campaign is already 499% funded!

Words From a Father to His Daughter (From the Makeup Aisle)

Clinical psychologist Kelly Flanagan’s letter to his 4-year-old daughter on body image is simply beautiful: “Words From a Father to His Daughter (From the Makeup Aisle)” at UnTangled.

This is a really important topic of conversation for me too and my daughter has done many assignments at school on this as well. I think it is also a very damaging problem for boys as well. Our poor kids are faced with such unrealistic expectations regarding body image every day.

My weekly Say G’day linky is on now and this would be a great addition to the party. Please pop by and say g’day if you have a moment.

    Best wishes,
    Natasha in Oz

I love the line average is beautiful, these days lot of focus on beaing beautiful outside giving a throw to what the person is from inside. Its better to be average beautiful externally and extremely beautiful inside.
