I love that new traditions are starting in many families to encourage kindness in kids at Christmastime. I wrote before about kindness elves. Today, I want to share resources for families who would like to encourage kindness with the Christmas Angel.

The Christmas Angel used by many families is The Christmas Angel storybook set: a book and doll along with gold dust for messages: The Christmas Angel. (The set is out of print and unavailable at the moment. You can find adaptable ideas below.)
According to The Christmas Angel blog (no longer available):
“Just as the angel came to Mary with a message, The Christmas Angel will visit children during the Christmas season and leaves messages in her golden dust. Each message encourages them to serve and do for others, instilling in them that the greater blessing is to give than to receive!”
Other Ideas for Christmas Angels
I love this Angel Doll/Christmas Angel by Wildflower Toys on Etsy. It’s available in a variety of hair colors and skin colors!
You could also make your own bender doll angel (tutorial at Secret Good Deeds & More).
Resources for Using The Christmas Angel to Encourage Kindness
You can use The Christmas Angel throughout Advent, throughout December, or the last two weeks before Christmas. You can hide the Christmas Angel every day or fewer days. Just do what works for your family.
You’ll find lots of ideas at The Christmas Angel/Message Ideas Pinterest Board (other Christmas Angel boards, too).
Ashley from Pichea Place wrote her golden messages using glitter and glue to avoid a mess.
Katie from Wellness Mama said, “Each day of Advent (we started a couple days late…) the Christmas Angel does a random act of kindness herself (picks up a toy that was left out overnight, gives the kids a piece of homemade chocolate, etc) and holds a note with a suggestion for our kind act for the day.
To prevent messes, Mama Jenn had the idea of writing the word “GIVE” in gold glitter on an envelope and writing the daily hint on an index card in gold ink, which is then placed in the envelope. Each day, the Christmas Angel would be hidden along with the envelope containing the hint.
Give Peas a Chance used The Christmas Angel along with Elf on the Shelf. You can find a series of posts about their adventures.
Melanie from Sweet Southern Mel also used The Christmas Angel together with Elf on the Shelf. Her messages were written in gold Sharpie on black paper.
