This is the year I want to do something different … I want to live out loud. I love the quote by the 19th century French novelist, critic, and activist Emile Zola:
I am here to live out loud.
For many of us, it’s easier to nurture and cheer others on … more difficult to shine ourselves. Even though I was never an athete, I’m happy I raised competitive athletes. My children learned to live out loud, to be self-confident … along with developing many other positive character traits that sports can offer.
But now that my children are grown, it’s time for me to learn to live out loud … to write the books I need to write and say the things I need to say. It’s time for me to make a difference outside my comfort zone.
Yesterday, Michelle at Intentional Me reminded me of another quote that’s perfect for me in my goal to live out loud. That quote by Marianne Williamson in her book Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of a Course in Miracles is in the following image and YouTube video.
Are you living out loud? Or do you need to learn to shine, too? I’ll be happy to cheer you on!

Don’t know who MW is – but the quote “our deepest fear …” is from a speech by Nelson Mandela. We used it at our son’s baptism in the mid 90s.

Thanks for bringing up an interesting point. That quote often has been mistakenly attributed to Nelson Mandela’s 1994 inaugural address. It actually is an excerpt from Marianne Williamson’s 1992 book A Return to Love. Here’s a link to Nelson Mandela’s 1994 inaugural speech, which is lovely but doesn’t have the quote: http://bit.ly/hZuCSE. There’s an interesting article by Bart Gibby, who thoroughly researched the source of the quote. He concluded that the quote came from Marianne Williamson: http://www.bartgibby.com/2007/09/19/marianne-williamson-or-nelson-mandela/.

I love this saying “Live Out Loud” It can certainly mean different things to different people. Yet, I read it as living with purpose, one that is worth letting others know about!
You must be one proud mama. I read a bit about “your” figure skaters. What an adventure you have had!

Deb! Thank you so much for linking up! I had no idea you ran this blog too! I am more than happy to hear you and your kids are veg! We need more veg athletes in this world to show people that it is actually a healthier option and not for weaklings!
Deb says
Thanks, Kirsty! This is my blog with encouragement for parents and athletes, inspirational quotes, word-art freebies, motivation for life, and ways to make a difference. My husband and I love being vegetarian – and my kids didn’t hesitate in choosing to stay vegetarian as adults, too!
