We worry that Christmas has become too commercial. And it has. But sometimes even the advertisements get it right. Here are some of my favorite Christmas ads … ones that send an inspirational message (and ones you might even need a tissue for).

These are all family friendly and even have a positive character lesson in them.

Christmas Advertisements with a Message to Encourage Good Character and Make You Smile

“The Wish Writer” – Macy’s Christmas Film 2015

“Make someone’s wish come true.”
“Macy’s will donate $1 to Make-A-Wish® for every letter to Santa received, up to one million dollars.”

I like that the pen in the video only works for certain types of gift requests!

Sainsbury’s OFFICIAL Christmas advert 2016 -The Greatest Gift

“The greatest gift I can give … is me.”
Sainsbury’s (a chain of supermarkets in the UK) says they’re working “in partnership with Great Ormond Street Hospital to help families be together. Over 50% of children treated at Great Ormond Street Hospital are from outside of London, so we’re raising money to fund accommodation that means patients’ families can stay close by in difficult times.”

It’s too easy to forget that what our family needs most is our presence. I love that this ad shows the truth of the Jesse Jackson quote “Your children need your presence more than your presents.”

WestJet Christmas Miracle: 12,000 mini miracles

“Miracles do happen when we all work together as one.” The spirit of the season is about giving “or doing a little extra for someone else.”
WestJet’s video description: “On December 9, 2015 we asked you to help us spread Christmas cheer and make 12,000 mini miracles happen in 24hrs. You sure delivered! We were overwhelmed by the response from everyone and after a heartwarming and humbling day, we surpassed our goal by a wide margin.”

WestJet has great Christmas videos each year. But this is my favorite because it focuses on giving experiences and making a difference as much as on tangible presents.
