Spring was always my favorite season … especially growing up in South Dakota! Even now, living in San Diego, I love to see the coming of spring.
Here are my favorite spring quotes:
“Spring is the time of plans and projects.” Leo Tolstoy, Anna Karenina
“Is the spring coming?” he said. “What is it like?”…
“It is the sun shining on the rain and the rain falling on the sunshine…”
Frances Hodgson Burnett, The Secret Garden
“Spring is nature’s way of saying, ‘Let’s Party!’” Robin Williams
“April’s air stirs in
Willow-leaves…a butterfly
Floats and balances”
Bashō, Japanese Haiku
“Spring is when you feel like whistling, even with a shoe full of slush.” Doug Larson
“In the spring, at the end of the day, you should smell like dirt.” Margaret Atwood
“When spring came, even the false spring, there were no problems except where to be happiest. The only thing that could spoil a day was people and if you could keep from making engagements, each day had no limits. People were always the limiters of happiness except for the very few that were as good as spring itself.”
Ernest Hemingway, A Moveable Feast
“It is spring again. The earth is like a child that knows poems by heart.” Rainer Maria Rilke
“She turned to the sunlight
And shook her yellow head,
And whispered to her neighbor:
‘Winter is dead.’”
A.A. Milne, When We Were Very Young
“The first blooms of spring always make my heart sing.” S. Brown
“Blossom by blossom the spring begins.” Algernon Charles Swinburne
“I am going to try to pay attention to the spring. I am going to look around at all the flowers, and look up at the hectic trees. I am going to close my eyes and listen.” Anne Lamott
“Spring work is going on with joyful enthusiasm.” John Muir
“Behold, my friends, the spring is come; the earth has gladly received the embraces of the sun, and we shall soon see the results of their love!” Sitting Bull
“I believe in process. I believe in four seasons. I believe that winter’s tough, but spring’s coming. I believe that there’s a growing season. And I think that you realize that in life, you grow. You get better.” Steve Southerland
“Never cut a tree down in the wintertime. Never make a negative decision in the low time. Never make your most important decisions when you are in your worst moods. Wait. Be patient. The storm will pass. The spring will come.” Robert H. Schuller
“Expect to have hope rekindled. Expect your prayers to be answered in wondrous ways. The dry seasons in life do not last. The spring rains will come again.” Sarah Ban Breathnach
“April hath put a spirit of youth in everything. (Sonnet XCVIII)” William Shakespeare, Sonnets
“Spring drew on…and a greenness grew over those brown beds, which, freshening daily, suggested the thought that Hope traversed them at night, and left each morning brighter traces of her steps.” Charlotte Brontë, Jane Eyre
“That is one good thing about this world…there are always sure to be more springs.” L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Avonlea
“Spring unlocks the flowers to paint the laughing soil.” Bishop Reginald Heber
“Despite the forecast, live like it’s spring.” Lilly Pulitzer
