This post isn’t about a new event. But it deserves all the attention it’s gotten over the years. The YouTube video is of Heather Dorniden, who was leading a 600-meter race in the finals of a college championship….
The video is a perfect example of the message to never give up in a competition regardless of what has happened.
I’ve always appreciated the character training sports gave my children. I have a category of posts here with competition helps from my family’s experiences with international figure skating. My post “Be a Good Sports Parent…” has ideas that worked for my family and many others.
Of course, the message in the video can be applied to any competition … not just to a sports competition. What is your favorite part of the character education children can receive from sports or another type of competition?

My daughter is a fierce competitor and world champion for her sport. Last year she got injured, required surgery, and had to sit out her national competition. It was hard to watch as a parent, but it was amazing to witness her character. She cheered on her teammates and competitors, has proven her resilience, and has learned that a champion comes in many forms.
I’m sorry to hear your daughter was injured, but it’s awesome to hear about her amazing character. That will serve her well throughout life. 🙂
